Glasshouse Operations Manager

We are searching for a passionate and seasoned individual who will be responsible for all aspects of the growing operation at our client's site in East Lothian. You will hold a deep understanding of plant cultivation, have excellent leadership skills, and a dedication to plant health and vitality. Managing the wider nursery team, you will ensure the site operates effectively with a keen eye on sustainable practices, all whilst meeting the production and quality objectives of the business. A fantastic role to leverage your proven skills and contribute to the continued success of this thriving operation.

Role Responsibilities:
- To collaborate with the wider team managing the cultivation process, developing and executing management schedules that are aligned with business objectives and ensure optimal growing conditions
- To maintain accurate records of plant health and growth rates, analysing the data to underpin plant management strategies to help achieve optimal yields
- To undertake routine plant health and quality evaluations, highlighting any concerns to senior management
- To ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations
- To organise the growing of plants through scheduling of labour, irrigation and applying plant health treatments with precision
- To oversee the day-to-day operations and upkeep of the nursery's facilities ensuring optimal running conditions
- To provide guidance and support to the nursery team, promoting sustainable practices and fostering a positive work environment
Skills you will need:
Essential:
- Previous experience of working within the horticultural sector
- A qualification in horticulture/agriculture, or related experience
- Proven experience of managing a team
- A strong understanding and knowledge of plant cultivation
- Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise workloads and manage multiple tasks
- Strong problem-solving skills with a keen eye for detail
- A strategic thinker, with strong planning and operational skills
- Confident with data analysis and interpreting results for positive outcomes
- An effective communicator with the ability to lead and motivate a team
- Driven and committed to achieving quality
- Proficient IT skills
